Katsiane is the author of "amBUSHed." This beautifully shot film depicts the brutal and daily occurence of police violence. The film uses experimental techniques to delve into the life and conciousness of two generations of African American men who find their lives invaded by the code: "africandiaspora af-am."

Dominique Malaquais is an urban and cultural historian who works in Central Africa and teaches at Sarah Lawrence College. She holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her work focuses on 20th and 21st century architecture, urbanism, popular culture, art and resistance politics south of the Sahara. She is the author of Architecture, pouvoir et dissidence au Cameroun (2002), a study of architecture as a tool of political power and revolt in the Bamileke region of Western Cameroun, of articles on the built environment, city spaces, and contemporary arts of Cameroon, and of essays on the classical arts of sub-Saharan Africa.

Rod Rodgers

 

The Rod Rodgers Dance Company was founded in 1963 in New York City by Rod Audrian Rodgers (1938-). The company has been particularily active in bringing dance programs into public schools, colleges, and community organizations. During the 1990s it presented works honoring African American artists and leaders such as Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, and Mary McCleod Bethune.

Millions need to ask:

* What kind of heroes force a broomstick up the rectum of a handcuffed man?
* What kind of heroes help cover up when this happens?
* What kind of heroes remain silent in the face of such brutality?
