As we enter the new century, our society finds itself at a crossroad: Do we continue dumping billions into the incarceration industry? Or can we abandon this failed approach and pursue the wiser course- seeking safer communities by investing in more jobs, better education, and stronger human servicces? The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights advocates a visionary, "human investment" agenda that aims to build powerful, vibrant communities.

October 22

|
In the post-September 11 climate, the powers-that-be apparently feel they have a license to exonerate cops involved in one of the most notorious police brutality cases in the nations history. They try to tell us cops are heroes.
Millions need to ask:
* What kind of heroes force a broomstick up the rectum of a handcuffed man?
* What kind of heroes help cover up when this happens?
* What kind of heroes remain silent in the face of such brutality?
