Introduction

Greetings,
So, I was just lurking, but was recently disturbed by
a specific request that I introduce myself and get more
involved with the discussion and planning leading up to
the conference.
I generally hate intros, 'cause I'm never sure what
to say. Sure, I have a canned bio, but it's a bit too
pretentious and pompous for use in anything other than
conference programs.
OK, let's see. So, like, there's this thing called a digital
divide, OK? And see, like, well, I'm supposed to be, well,
at least according to demographic data, on the other side
of it, meaning, I'm not supposed to be here, on this list, I
mean. The problem is, no one told me that back in 1979, so I
went online anyway. So, like, 24 years later, I'm still here,
and in between then and now I had lots of fun, led some folks
to the promised land...basically, in certain corners of
cyberspace, places where most of you have never been, my
name is Muad'Dib. These days, I run around like a chicken
with my head cutoff, extolling the virtues of non-capitalist
modes of thinking and production, especially in regards to
communications and technology. This isn't new, since it's
the reason I went online in the first place, even before I
was aware of it, it's just that now, people actually force
me to speak, even when I'm not in the mood to. %-)Art
