I am an ordinary <faces> punk--and freecooperation lurker--writing in to
say YES to Vali's observation that the faces mailing list is incredibly
effective as a way for women in new media to strike up alliances with
faces in other countries. I got email one day from a virtual reality
artist who was moving to Munich and who had posted a note to faces asking
if anyone knew anyone in Munich. Someone in Stockholm sent her my name,
and we are now best friends. Sounds corny, but is true. First, though, a
year went by in which Tamiko kept wondering if I was too much of a snob to
join <faces> and I kept thinking I had to be invited. I am very stupid
when it comes to socializing, which is one of the reasons I won't be in
the hot tub this weekend. But I wanted to speak up to say that Vali and
Diana are representing a very vivid community--and that I will be with you
in spirit.
