Re:List move.

Patrick Lichty

Apr 21, 2004

Hello, everyone...
I've just had a chance to read most of the list, and I hope that I can
just say that it's amazing to be coming to this, and I hope my mind
keeps up. I guess I'll just keep drinking coffee to artificially
enhance my cognition for 3 days...
However, Trebor asked for a brief intro.
I'm Patrick Lichty (one of my many names that I use), and I've been on
the Net since 1983, when it was basically Bitnet, Gopher, etc.
I'm an artist, writer, and curator who works more conceptually than
anything else, and have/am particpat(ed/ing) in a lot of collectives,
such as The Yes Men (animator), The US Department of Art and Technology,
and Terminal Time (Paul Vanouse's project on interactive documentary).
The thrust of my work is in activism, critical works in new media, a lot
of video subversion and cognition/narrative.
Current bodies of work are looking at the digitally minimal, obsolete
technology, globalism and art production, databases as digital
subconscious, and disconnected/sustainable/autonomous new media.
I also edit and produce (in partnership with Christiane Paul)
Intelligent Agent, an online journal of new media scholarship, of which
I will stop hawking on request. However, I hope that many of you might
be interested in collaborating with our journal as a result of this
event.
Nathan from Hactivist and I will be conducting a very strange event in
which we will be having a four hour conversation on collaborations and
new media. Rest assured that I have formulated enough content to fill
the four hours.
Tony Conrad has come to New Orleans only when he darn well knew I would
be out of town for the holidays, so he can't hide now.
So, I look forward to seeing all of you at the event, and let us push
our minds until you can fry eggs on our foreheads!
Best,
Patrick Lichty
