Hello free cooperators,
My name is Jon Thomson and I practice as an artist in collaboration
with Alison Craighead. Most of our work at the moment is in
developing networked installations primarily for galleries, but also
in our on-going web-work http://www.dot-store.com, which among other
things is a kind of ironic testament to the passing of the first
dotcom bubble...
Our gallery work however, is currently focused on the development of
installations that generate cinematic outcomes from live networked
data appropriated in real-time from the world wide web -something we
call, 'Template Cinema' which we launched in London during December
2002 with an installation called, 'Short Films about Flying.'

I am also a member of the independent artists' collective, Low-fi
(http://www.low-fi.org.uk) which is an open database we continue to
develop out of the UK for locating, contextualising and connecting
artists' use of the internet. Much of the Low-fi philosophy centres
upon using networks like the internet to foster collaborative
practice and discourse, which in itself relates strongly to the
themes of this discussion...
I guess though that my own interest in, "Social Network Architectures
and Collaborative Models for Cultural Resistance" is rooted in the
evolution of spaces like the world wide web, but particularly the
huge potential we are seeing in the emergence of wireless networks
and mobile communications. This seems set to have a considerable
effect on politics and pragmatics of peer to peer networked
structures and, in turn on models for collaborative cultural
resistance. Perhaps not _quite_ the same as, "Collaborative Models
for Cultural Resistance" but surely in the same ballpark at least :)
best wishes,
Jon
