| Trebor sent me. I invent and design in New York City. The need to oppose the totalitarian tendencies of triumphant capitalism and protect the American experiment in democracy is weighing on my mind. The possibility that similarly minded persons may be in this attractive group is my main motive for joining and may lead me to come to Buffalo at my own expense. Although I will turn 62 tomorrow do not look to me for maturity or practical advice. I am extremely childish and irresponsible, execpt in matters relating to my inventions. Everything I do has a basis in Daoist(yin-yang)philosophy and is inherently opposed to the unhealthy extremes of both contemporary technological society and established religions. NewZoid False Headlines is my only net work. But I have other things in mind and consider software and the Internet great tools for tilting at the windmills. Give me a programmer and a place to stand and I will move the world! My studio is in Manhattan in the design oasis building of the great Milton Glaser with whom I collaborate. I used to be a lawyer. Now my main work (some call it play)is inventing deep oddities with some patented and patent-pending products likely to begin coming out in 2004 such as the following: WishPad, a paper notepad with a unique additional function. Each paper sheet grants wishes by chance - in the manner of the traditional wishbone. I Ching Magnets, the first direct and naturally yin-yang method for consulting the ancient oracle. They replace indirect, numerical methods, such as sticks, coins and computer programs, by making solid or broken lines immediately tangible and visible in accordance with the system's traditional probabilities. Metamorf Picture Puzzle system, in which as few as six flat, printed pieces make four completely different pictures. Chessence, the world's lightest yet most secure Chess and Checkers set - based on a new way to use corrugated paperboard. It achieves three-dimensional play with an unprecedented economy of material yet is guaranteed to survive an earthquake with the pieces in their last playing position. Let the games continue! It will take me a week or two to review the postings of this distinguished group from the beginning. Then I will see if I have anything to add. Happy New Year. Daniel Young |
